Wanted: PHP Web Developer For On-Going Contract Work
We are a small but growing web development company focused on building, maintaining and marketing web sites for small businesses in Contra Costa County. We are currently looking for freelance contractors to help us rapidly and efficiently develop sites for our clients based on reasonably detailed sets of requirements.
Though you will work mostly from your location on your own equipment, we prefer individuals who are located in or around Contra Costa County [CA] as we would like to meet with you in person at least once a week while you are working on our projects.Most of our work at this point is customizing open source CMS platforms to fit our clients' needs, though we are ramping up to begin building some custom web applications using our internal object oriented PHP-based framework. Pay is commensurate with experience and skill level and is negotiated on a per-project basis. You will be working with at least one other PHP programmer who is already experienced in our existing code base and can act to some degree as a reference, as well as a small team of designers and front-end programmers.
Years of experience and previous employment are not as important to us as your level of programming skill, so please clearly demonstrate your competence in this area. If this would be your first professional programming job, but you're confident you can handle it, don't let that deter you from applying. Though we don't really have the bandwidth to train people at this point, the work we do is terrific experience for anyone looking to get into full-time web development. As we grow, there will be plenty of opportunities for your own growth as well.
The skills we are looking for include:
* Knowledge of object oriented design and programming principles and best practices. Experience with a strong OO language such as Java is a plus.
* Strong knowledge of both PHP4 and PHP5.
* Experience implementing and customizing PHP-based CMS platforms such as Joomla and WordPress.
* Experience working with Subversion as a code repository.
The following skills are also a big plus:
* Strong knowledge of standards-compliant HTML and CSS.
* Experience with database migrations between different systems, i.e. Lotus Approach to MySQL.
* A solid understanding of Ruby on Rails, in particular its implementation of the MVC pattern.
If you are interested, please send us an email with the following:
* Your resume in PDF or plain text format - resumes in any other format will be deleted and ignored.
* In the body of your email, please describe your experience and provide us with samples of currently public sites you have worked on, if any, describing what you did for them.
* Attach some samples of code you have written demonstrating your level of knowledge with object oriented programming and design and best code writing practices.
Outsourced or offshore development groups need not apply, but if you want to help our market research efforts by giving us all of your information, we'll gladly take it.
* Compensation: $35 - 55 per hour, BOE
* Telecommuting is ok.
* This is a contract job.
* Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster.
* Please, no phone calls about this job!
* Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests.
