Founded in 1941, [Organization] is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that promotes an engaged U.S. foreign policy; evaluates global human rights conditions; sponsors public education campaigns; facilitates training and other assistance to promote democracy and free market reforms; and provides support for the rule of law, free media, and effective local governance.
[Organization] is seeking an Editorial and Research Associate to work on a survey examining the status of women in the Persian Gulf region. Under the direction of the Managing Editor, the candidate will be responsible for editing and proofreading country reports, organizing outreach events, creating charts and graphs packages, preparing presentations, maintaining distribution lists, coordinating production of CD-ROMs and podcasts, providing administrative and research assistance, and other duties as assigned.
This is a nine month position with a possibility of permanent employment. The anticipated start date is in April 2008.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, education, and experience:
* Exceptional editing, writing, and proofreading skills
* Regional knowledge of the Middle East, particularly the Gulf countries
* Bachelor’s degree in political science, international affairs, history, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
* Strong computer skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of basic website design is helpful
* Familiarity with basic statistical methods
* Ability to multitask, perform on tight deadlines, have a great eye for detail, and be exceptionally well organized
* Fluency in Arabic is preferred, but not required
