[Organization] is the only organization solely devoted  to meeting the needs of the 8 million American women living with heart disease.  We provide direct support to women, advocate on their behalf, and educate the public and health community.  This $1.5 million, 9-year-old organization is poised for rapid expansion.  [Organization] seeks a Director of Programs to manage the existing signature programs of the organization and develop new programs to meet the needs of key volunteers and women nationwide.  The Director of Programs will manage and lead the organization’s full range of programs and events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Education Programs

[Organization] seeks to further develop its renowned, on-going National Leadership Program in Collaboration with Mayo Clinic. The program was established in 2002 to train, activate and support a national network of women heart patients working across the country as compelling community educators.  More than 350 women heart patients have been trained, and have subsequently reached thousands of other women through community education, media outreach and running local patient support groups (currently 50).

The Director of Programs would:

Patient Support Programs

[Organization] offers the only network of support groups – all led by volunteers who are heart patients -- for women living with heart disease. Our comprehensive Support Network Program facilitates the formation of support groups in local communities; promotes community outreach and patient education activities by support group members; and develops new support services via online, telephone, and other communication channels.

[Organization's] local support networks (groups)—now in 25 states—grew from 37 to 52 in 2007, representing a 41% increase.

The Director of Programs would:

* Strengthen relationship and communications between national office and support network coordinators
* Evaluate the needs and effectiveness of the current support networks (groups), volunteer coordinators and volunteer regional directors
* Develop ongoing services for support of these volunteers and their local support groups to potentially include: ongoing education in CVD scientific developments; development of marketing/PR materials and volunteer training; toolkit(s) for running support groups; mechanisms for sharing successful support group strategies across the network.
* Evaluate current support network model and develop plan for expansion to take program to scale
* Develop new patient support services, e.g. online “sister” matching program, peer counseling, hotline, etc.

Scientific/Research Programs

[Organization] has a Scientific Advisory Council comprised of top cardiologists, researchers and health professionals specializing in heart health.

The Director of Programs would:

* Develop ongoing programming and/or projects to engage scientific and medical advisors in activities to advance WomenHeart’s mission
* Work with Scientific Advisory Council (and Director of Communications & Partnerships) to develop outreach and/or communication programs to raise awareness of WomenHeart among physicians and healthcare providers and increase patient referrals to WomenHeart
* Staff and maintain relationships with Scientific Advisory Council
